“I spilled some orange juice in my room.” Hamish lied, “Sorry, Father.. I can go and clean it up now if you’d like?” he shifted towards the door, readying himself for a quick get-away.
“You’re lying.” Sherlock tried to look stern but he couldn’t help smiling.
“You have a tell, just like your Dad.”“Okay, I lied.” Hamish admitted, “But it’s their own fault I set their backpacks on fire. They deserved it, they’re stupid.” he crossed his arms, “What gave my lying away?”
“On f-” Sherlock set the flask down and turned to Hamish.
“Did you bring matches or did you abuse the school Bunsen burneragain?”
“Oh, and I’m your Father, do you really think I’d throw away this little advantage and tell you? I wouldn’t have to use it so much if you wouldn’t lie so often Hamish, you fool neither me nor John and you waste the time of all of us.”
“Well, I have matches but I also used a bunsen burner.” He replied and shrugged, “I used the matches before recess, and the bunsen burners after lunch.” he then replied. Hamish pushed his lips to one side as he thought, “I do fool Dad sometimes, though. ..don’t I?” There was a sudden internal panic that maybe all this time his Dad knew he was lying, too.
Sherlock sighed heavily. John was going to be in a right state when he got home if the school had called him while he was at the Surgery, and the evidence was all leaning in that direction at this point.
“Hamish…there’s a sample of gastric acid in the refrigerator, will you bring it to me? It’s in the old jam jar with a label on.”
“I spilled some orange juice in my room.” Hamish lied, “Sorry, Father.. I can go and clean it up now if you’d like?” he shifted towards the door, readying himself for a quick get-away.
“You’re lying.” Sherlock tried to look stern but he couldn’t help smiling.

You seem to keep it quite sealed when we’re trying to ask you something important.” Sherlock put a proper stopper in the flask this time instead of using his thumb so that he could shake it without burning himself.“For example, what it was you assumed I was referring to when I shouted for you.”

The hint of a smile touched Sherlock’s lips. “Don’t tell your Dad?”
“Hmm..” Hamish mused, peeking over to Sherlock and grinning. “Okay, but keeping my mouth shut might be a hard job to do, Father..” He said, pouting melodramatically.
